There are kind of two angles which can be taken here - this survey could ask people what their current perceptions are of their role and their engagement with the collective, as well as the structure more broadly, or it could ask people what they want it to be. Maybe it should be both!

Identity & Agency

Do you currently feel agency over the projects and activities that the GFSC collective engages with/supports?

Are you currently active on the Discord, or do you lurk?

If you mostly lurk, what are barriers to getting involved with the Discord?

Membership

Do you think collective membership should have a fixed definition, or be flexible?

How do you think collective membership should be determined?

Showing up to meetings?

Being present in the Discord?

Filling out a form?

Do you think membership should require a minimum commitment or come with obligations?

Do you think membership should come with ‘perks’ that are only for collective members? If yes:

What perks would you find most useful? E.g.

Access to Hometown server

Access to GFSC hosted services

Listed on GFSC collective website/able to say you’re a member

If you think membership should have perks, do you think there’s a way to achieve this without having a fixed definition of membership?

Do you think there needs to be a way to be a member without using Discord?

Should membership be by invite only or self-selecting?

How should the collective handle changing schedules and the flex in collective members’ capacity over time to contribute to collective meetings and projects?

Meetings

How often would you ideally like to participate in GFSC collective meetings?

Do you think meetings should be chaired by GFSC studio staff?

Do you think meetings should be transcribed by GFSC studio staff?

Getting things done

Would you prefer projects being broken down into specific tasks or roles which are then able to be volunteered for (like a more traditional volunteer job), or for projects to have open tasks be transparent which can be picked up by anyone with the time and inclination (with less strict delineation of role and time commitment)?

This can also be thought of as the ‘volunteer model’ vs the ‘mutual aid/activist model’
